Friday 17th March 2017

GREVIO is the independent expert body responsible for monitoring the implementation of the Council of Europe Convention on Preventing and Combating Violence against Women and Domestic Violence (Istanbul Convention) by the member Parties. GREVIO draws up and publishes reports evaluating legislative and other measures taken by the Parties to give effects to the provisions of the Convention.

As part of the recent International Women’s Day, GREVIO issued the following statement and report;

Making women safe from fear, safe from violence - how the Istanbul Convention is helping to achieve full gender equality” has been published to recall the importance of the Istanbul Convention as the most comprehensive set of legally binding standards to ensure every woman’s right to a life free from violence. GREVIO notes with concern the rise in misconceptions surrounding the Istanbul Convention related to the concept of gender and it underlines that it is violence which destroys the family.”
